One of my favorite stories to tell when asked about my top worst dates is when I went out with a kid named.....well it started with a "G" and ended with a "uillermo". Yep. It was quite the name. One of my favorite parts about this date was when he ran out of things to say and in his nervous efforts to fill the silence emptied all of the contents of his pockets on to the table at the restaurant and proceeded to tell me about every item found on the table and in his wallet. I heard about the comb he carries, the gas station the receipt was from, and the gum he spit out right before he picked me up. Oh and who could forget the wadded up tissue from last week's cold? It was quite the treat. Then he asked me to empty out the contents of my purse and continue this activity. I declined explaining "Over the mysteries of female life there is drawn a veil best left undisturbed".
Last year in May I was called to the primary. In august I decided I needed to switch purses and emptied out the one I was currently using. I laughed at the contents and took a quick picture. All of the things I used in primary. Tonight as I was in a rush to walk out of the door I poured the contents of my bag out onto my bed once again to get rid of extra weight. The contents made me smile yet again. So in the spirit of laughs and bad dates I will push back the veil and share with you the oh so mysterious contents of my purse.

The thing that gets me the most are the ear plugs and the exacto knife. I mean let's be real now. You never know when you are going to need either one of those things around children. They are MUST HAVES! ;-)
January 2, 2012 (I can't believe it's 2012!)
I lost the exacto knife and scissors (and apparently an earring), but as you can see, not much has changed. Funny enough, there was no wallet or money either times! My purse has gotten larger but only so I can accommodate the atlas and extra koosh balls. Who knew 8 year olds were so in love with geography!? With the silly putty, candy, and tissues constantly in tow, at first glance you'd think I was a mother. No. Just a prepared primary worker.
When life seems to be always moving it is so easy to get distracted and caught up in the rush. I know that is an all to often occurrence for me. I begin to think about the next thing I have to do or meeting I have to attend. And then, when I am in that meeting I am thinking about my to do list and mentally adding more things to accomplish then is humanly possible. I mean I am good and I know it, but I am not that good. ;) This kind of life makes it hard to live in the present and enjoy the here and now.
Everyone has been talking about Elder Uchtdorf's General relief society talk. Yes, it was good. Yes, it was historic. And yes, it was exactly what I needed to hear on that very day. I needed to be reminded by an apostle of the Lord to be patient with myself, to be happy now, and that my heavenly father loves me. He spoke about a few other things and for those of you who missed it, here is a highlight from his talk that summarizes the whole thing. Enjoy!
And in the spirit of being happy now, here is a list of things that have made me happy this week.
1. Hearing my name said by anyone one of those six boys. I love that they know my name and I love that they want to say some thing to ME! I taught Mr. Super when I ask, "Who's the best?" to say, "Deborah's the best" and I love it! Really having them come up and sit next to me makes me happy and helps me be in the moment cuz they are just so great!
2. I love watching and listening to my clients figure out their own problems and accomplish things that move them forward. I have one girl in particular who when we begin our session becomes her own therapist. She literally will answer the exact question I had just opened my mouth to ask before I ask it. I think she just needs a couch to sit on, but it is wonderful and it makes me SO happy!
3. I love love love getting letters from Tressa! I don't think I have one letter that I haven't started laughing after the first two sentences. Seriously. It is the highlight of my week.
4. Talking to Rachel about...School and the ACT and how great she is doing makes me happy. I love building a relationship with her.
5. Getting calls from a friend who just wants/needs to talk makes me happy. I love that she knows she can and feels comfortable enough calling me to tell me about her life. I love making and having girl friends! I don't have as many close girl friends as I do close guy friends but I treasure them greatly!
6. Feeling the spirit and getting explanations for certain questions I have makes me happy. I finally have a little bit of clarity!
7. Driving alone at night to a friend's house makes me happy. It takes me back to days with less responsibility and worry.
8. Feeling fall coming on makes me happy. To me, it is a very romantic time of year. I think it's the one time I feel particularly mushy.
9. Learning I am going to go back to El Salvador in January! Oh yes, this is going to be great!
10. Chillen with the rents makes me happy as well. (holy moly! I haven't heard or used that term in a loooong time!) I really do like them. I like that I am an adult and have a more developed frontal lobe to help me realize.....they do know what they are talking about and they are people I can relate to. Take that human behavior 101! I did learn a thing or two!
Today Tressa's mission call came!!!! It was a blast! Watch and see! Pay very close attention.
And Take two:
So basically, I made a fake mission call for Tressa. I decided to do it about an hour and a half before she came home to open the real one. Elizabeth read her mission call to me over the phone and I typed it up. I had a little trouble with the envelope because it was to big for EVERY printer we had in the house! I think it turned out ok!
I have so many comments on the video. I was so nervous that everyone laughing in the video before she even started reading would give things away. And the second thing (probably my favorite) is that Mr. Right was in the video in footie pajamas! HA I love it!
Tressa is going to the California Carlsbad mission!

I sure do love this message! What a beautiful thing the Atonement of Jesus Christ is. I truly am grateful for my Savior. He is real and he lives! What a blessing it has been in my life to know the truth of the gospel and to have felt the peace that comes through using the atonement of Jesus Christ.
I've thought and I've thought and I've thought about what to write here because the question is what do you believe? I feel like I can't answer this question without talking about religion. But my religion isn't something I believe. It is something I KNOW. I am so blessed to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know that it's gospel is true. I am so grateful for the happiness it has brought to my life. I have found that when I live by the teachings of the church and the way the Savior wants me to I am the happiest I have ever been!
The Living prophet
Thomas S. Monson
I know that there is a living prophet on the earth today directing us and guiding us. I am so grateful for the prophet and I love him! I know that the priesthood has been restored to the earth. It is amazing to me that the men of the church, the men I socialize with on a daily basis, have the power to act in the name of Jesus Christ!
I KNOW that Jesus Christ lives. It's true. I know that he atoned for me and because of his amazing sacrifice I am able to be redeemed from my sins. The Atonement of Jesus Christis my probably is my favorite thing about the gospel and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have felt the power of the Atonement in so many ways! The atonement is a comfort, it is a strength, it is a purifier, it is an escape. I know that as people turn to the Savior and use the atonement in their lives they will be happy. They will be comforted and they will be a better person.
I know that The Book Of Mormon is true. Recently I have noticed a very distinct difference in the quality of my mood, and my day, and my motivation when I read the book of Mormon and make it a priority in my life opposed to when I do not. I promise that when you read The Book of Mormon with the spirit and the intent to apply it to your life you will gain a testimony of it's truthfulness and you will come closer to the Savior Jesus Christ. Just like Joseph Smith Said you would!
Because of all of this it is hard for me to answer the question what do you believe. The better question would be what do you know?
Okay so here's the deal.... the first week into the semester I got a phone call early Sunday morning. It was the bishopric asking me to come in and see the bishop in 30 minutes. (I was totally still lying in bed when I answered the phone. ) I went in to find the bishop and see why he would call me in on the first Sunday of the semester. "Deborah, we would like to call you to be the Relief Society president of Relief Society A" is what the bishop said when we sat down in his office. As soon as I heard those words I began to laugh out loud. After I realized he was serious and probably scared away any confidence he had in me I stopped laughing and accepted the call.
Is it wrong that I am a little over whelmed? Thinking about everything I have to do with school and my internship and everything I should be doing with Relief Society has me a little anxious. I am finding that really....there are not enough hours in the day and I do have my limits. Is it bad that I stick to my limits?
Dear former and current Relief Society president friends of mine,
I could use some thoughts and pointers. How do I get it all done and still feel like a half way decent pres? Sometimes my girls just look at me like "are you crazy?" either that or "I have no idea what you're talking about and please stop trying to be funny because it is not working". Ohy. I wish I could....well figure out a way to get more motivation, more energy, and more hours in the day.
(And I thought 2 jobs and 15 credits was bad)
Is it bad if I sometimes find myself questioning if this call was inspiration or revenge for gray hairs I may have caused my bish?
