Good bye to a loved tradition

Last night Tressa and I went to our last Guitars unplugged together while both of us are students. We have gone together every semester since she has been here and it's become a bit of a tradition. I don't even like going now if she is not here. Yesterday I wasn't in the greatest of moods and Tressa Dragged me along, but once we got there I cheered right up. I know I have posted pictures of guitars unplugged in the past, but since it was our last one I wanted to reminisce a bit and post the pictures again.

Sarah took this picture for us and REALLY wanted us to show our shoes. We had to do quite a few takes because balancing on one 3 inch heel is hard.

Spring semester 2010

Waiting for the show to begin

Winter semester 2009 (sometimes you don't have anyone to take the picture and you make do)

Here are a few of our favorite performances for your enjoyment. LOL we sure do have some talent. LOL...

The Chemipoles Winter 2009

Orin Peasley and the Bedazzlers Spring 2009
So these guys didn't sound the greatest but they sure were crowd pleasers.

Winter 2010 didn't have any worth while performances and last night's videos are not available yet.

It's time for Africa!

All I have heard my cute roommate Sarah talk about for the last few days is the world cup. It's being hosted in south Africa you know? Friday night Tressa, Sarah, and I went to a world cup/birthday party for a girl in our relief Society. We thought it would be a good idea to dressed up in Sarah's African Garb to represent. HA It was a blast! The funnest thing about it was watching how excited Sarah got as we put it all on. When we got to the party Sarah, Tressa, and I did an African dance and the other girls wanted to join in. So Sarah taught us more african dance moves and she got even more excited. In the three years I have lived with her I don't think I have ever seen her so giddy. We all had such a good time. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Of course our classic Deborah and Tressa Picture

Dancing pose that Sarah made us do

Another Dancing pose of Sarah's, but this one is pretty legit.

Love this girl!!!!!

My best friend Jared

I really should take more pictures but I never remember my camera for the important occasions. This morning I was able to get up and attend the baby blessings of one of my very best friend's son. It was a very special experience to sit there with Jared and Nic and remember the circumstances of when our friendship began. I was 18 years old and going through one of the hardest things I have ever had to deal with. There is no other way to describe it other then my spirit and heart was broken. I met Jared January of 2004 and he was heaven sent! He took me under his wing and as my mother says, "put the light back into my eyes". He was such a good friend, mentor, and big brother figure. Now we all have gotten through our individual struggles and our group of friends (minus Liz) was sitting in sacrament meeting together as Jared blessed his first child. I truly am grateful for moments like that. The lord has blessed me with fantastic friends.

I'll just take a moment and tell you just how special Jared is to me. He is one of those great friends that you keep around always. I am very grateful for all he has done for me. He and I have been through a lot together and he has stuck with me through all my crazy shenanigans. There were so many times that my 6'5, 250 pound best friend would run off stalkers and unwanted ex-boyfriends. He's gotten me out of so many pickles and I wouldn't make any big decision without consulting him. Needless to say I love that guy. I am so extremely happy that he has found a beautiful wife who is amazing and they have just had their first son. Honestly their little boy is one of the cutest kids I have ever seen. They did good!

Jared did a fantastic job with the blessing this morning. My heart was touched to hear the words he blessed his little boy with. We all have come so far since January of 2004. I am just so grateful for all of the wonderful experiences I have had with him. The lord truly brings people into your life when you need them most, and he has blessed me with so many fantastic friends just like Jared exactly when I have needed them. Words can not express my gratitude for that.

Can I get a green check mark?

When I log onto my student home page there is a summary of my requirements for graduation. There was a day when I first started college that I thought I would never see 4 little green check marks and the requirements saying "met". Well in a few short months they will all say "met" with a little green check mark next to them. Can I get an Amen and Hallelujah! This is what it looks like right now when I log into my student account. I am only 6 credits away from meeting the University's requirements and 11 credits away from the social work requirements.

Requirements Summary
NameStatus
BACHELOR UNIVERSITY REQS Not Met
BACHELOR UPPER DIV REQ Met
500 SOCIAL WORK Not Met
BACHELOR RELIGION REQS Met

Yeah, it feels good. It feels reeeeeally good.

Who knew
I would graduate from BYU-I DO
With a degree,
Before I was thirty Two?

Nice poem huh? Yeah, I just made it up right now. I'd say I'm pretty good at poems. And that ladies and Gentleman is what 4 years of higher level learning gets you. Superior poem making skills! (and 4 little green check marks of course)

Pigs must be flying

Okay so here's the deal.... the first week into the semester I got a phone call early Sunday morning. It was the bishopric asking me to come in and see the bishop in 30 minutes. (I was totally still lying in bed when I answered the phone. ) I went in to find the bishop and see why he would call me in on the first Sunday of the semester. "Deborah, we would like to call you to be the Relief Society president of Relief Society A" is what the bishop said when we sat down in his office. As soon as I heard those words I began to laugh out loud. After I realized he was serious and probably scared away any confidence he had in me I stopped laughing and accepted the call.

Is it wrong that I am a little over whelmed? Thinking about everything I have to do with school and my internship and everything I should be doing with Relief Society has me a little anxious. I am finding that really....there are not enough hours in the day and I do have my limits. Is it bad that I stick to my limits?

Dear former and current Relief Society president friends of mine,
I could use some thoughts and pointers. How do I get it all done and still feel like a half way decent pres? Sometimes my girls just look at me like "are you crazy?" either that or "I have no idea what you're talking about and please stop trying to be funny because it is not working". Ohy. I wish I could....well figure out a way to get more motivation, more energy, and more hours in the day.

(And I thought 2 jobs and 15 credits was bad)

Is it bad if I sometimes find myself questioning if this call was inspiration or revenge for gray hairs I may have caused my bish?

Weddings and Feng Shui

This weekend was fantastic but also ultra busy. A dear friend of mine got married in Colorado and I made a weekend trip out there. It was so good to see her and she was a beautiful bride! I drove out there Friday but got a little later start and encountered pretty bad weather so I didn't get there until after 10 pm. The next day we did the wedding thing and then I went home the next morning. It all seems like a blur really but I had a great time! When I got home I put together a book self that I have been wanting for pretty much ever. And then rearranged my living room to fit it. I absolutely LOVE how it all turned out. For a college apartment it's not to bad and we all love just sitting in there now. Here are some pictures from the weekend.

The happy couple

The beautiful Bride and Me

My completed project (don't worry, I will add more to the shelf gradually)

The living room (please excuse the cardboard box)

We Love the shelf.....Hate the TV stand. (Alicia, I need your wonderful Ideas on how to fix it)
